Solskjaer to bring back the big guns - How Man Utd and Liverpool could line up in the Premier League

The Red Devils' boss rotated his starting XI for the game against Leicester, but just two days later the superstars should return against Liverpool

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to reinstate several superstar names to his starting XI for the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Thursday evening.

The match between the two Premier League giants was scheduled to take place two Sundays ago only for it to be postponed due to protests outside the stadium towards the Glazer family from Man Utd supporters.

This fixture has now had to be squeezed in an already busy schedule, with Man Utd playing Aston Villa this past Sunday, Leicester on Tuesday, and now Liverpool on the Thursday.

Due to the short time between matches, Solskjaer made several changes to his line-up for the game against Leicester, which his side subsequently lost 2-1.

Man Utd

Big hitters like Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay were all given a rest, though some did feature off the bench.

Youngsters Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga were given a chance to impress.

All of the senior players who were rested will likely be reinstated against Liverpool.

Dean Henderson will start in goal in front of a back four of Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, and Luke Shaw.

Fred will partner McTominay in midfield, with Fernandes, Rashford, and Pogba supporting lone striker Cavani in attack.

Mason Greenwood is in supreme form and scored again against Leicester, but it may be his turn for a rest against Liverpool.

Harry Maguire is injured and faces a race to be fit for the Europa League final.

Liverpool

Liverpool's injury list is starting to get very long again, as in addition to long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Jordan Henderson, manager Jurgen Klopp is also now without James Milner, Ozan Kabak, Ben Davies and Naby Keita.

We will therefore likely see an unchanged back four from the win against Southampton, with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right, Andy Robertson on the left, and Rhys Williams partnering Nat Phillips in the middle.

The midfield three will remain the same, too, with Thiago, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Fabinho in the central area.

There could be one change up top, though, with Roberto Firmino being reinstated to the starting XI in place of Diogo Jota, who started against the Saints.
