The Republic of Ireland’s miseries go from bad to worse after they fell to yet another defeat on Sunday to Wales.
David Brooks’ second-half strike gifted Wales a 1-0 win in Cardiff and means that Ireland are still without a victory in UEFA Nations League B Group 4.
Ireland’s recent run of form is dreadful. They are without a win in eight matches between official competition and friendlies. They have also lost three games in a row.

Worst of all, Ireland have now gone six games without scoring a goal in a sequence that has lasted over nine hours.
Ireland’s last win was over a year ago in a 3-1 friendly victory against New Zealand.
Between 2017 and 2020, the Boys in Green have managed just five victories.
These came against Moldova, Wales, Georgia and twice versus Gibraltar.

It is a sorry state of affairs for a nation that failed to qualify for next year’s European Championship and is lacking the kind of talent that helped them reach the last 16 at Euro 2016.
They will be hoping to stop the rot on Wednesday when they face Bulgaria at home in a match that will decide who finishes bottom of the group.
