Premier League team news: How Manchester City and Chelsea could line up

Pep Guardiola's side have the chance to wrap up the Premier League title when the Blues visit the Etihad Stadium over the weekend

Manchester City have the chance to wrap up their third Premier League title in four years when they host Chelsea on Saturday evening.

The two clubs are set to meet in the Champions League final at the end of the month after seeing off Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively and this dress rehearsal could offer some intriguing insight into the Istanbul showdown.

A win for Pep Guardiola's men would confirm their status as the champions of England, but they face a tough task in the shape of Thomas Tuchel's side, who dumped them out of the FA Cup semi-final just a few weeks ago.

Tuesday nights 2-0 victory over PSG made it five consecutive victories in all competitions for the Cityzens since that Wembley defeat by Chelsea, and they'll be confident of keeping that run going coming into this one.

The Blues, however, will also be optimistic about spoiling the party at the Etihad Stadium. A comfortable 2-0 win over Los Blancos last time out saw them progress to their third European Cup final under Roman Abramovich's reign, and with only one goal conceded in their last six outings, they should pose a tough test to this free-scoring City side.

Guardiola will once again have to cope without John Stones over the weekend as the England international serves the final game of his three-match ban. That means Aymeric Laporte is set to partner Ruben Dias at the heart of the defence after impressing in midweek.

Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo are likely to come back into the starting XI for Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kyle Walker to form the rest of the back four ahead of the ever-dependable Ederson in goal.

It was a birthday to remember for 36-year-old Fernandinho when the French champions came to visit, but two high-intensity games in one week may be too much for the South American, meaning Rodri is expected to take his place at the base of the midfield.

Alongside the Spaniard, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan are set to make up the engine room in what could prove to be a pivotal battle against Tuchel's tactical set-up.

In attack, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus will be desperate to earn a recall after watching the Champions League semi-final from the sidelines, and Phil Foden's impressive performance may be enough to keep his place in the front three.

Attempting to prolong the inevitable crowning of City as Premier League champions and boost their own top-four hopes will be a Chelsea side who have dramatically improved under their new manager's tutelage.

Edouard Mendy has kept the number one spot between the sticks under the German despite Kepa making the occasional outing, and the defensive unit ahead of the Senegal international has been amongst the best in the world in recent weeks.

Saturday's encounter could come too soon for Thiago Silva after the 36-year-old played 90 minutes against Madrid, allowing Kurt Zouma to make a return to the first-team alongside Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Tuchel may also be tempted to rotate the wing-backs, given the physical demands placed upon them, meaning Marcos Alonso and Reece James could have another opportunity to impress.

In the double-pivot positions, a combination of Jorginho and N'Golo Kante are likely to remain after their spectacular display in midweek, as Mateo Kovacic continues to recover from a thigh injury.

An attacking trio of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner wreaked havoc on the biggest stage of their careers last time out, but with the options available at Stamford Bridge, it would be a shock to see all three feature from the off once again.

The likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech will be hopeful of earning a recall as Chelsea look to maintain their three-point gap over West Ham United.
