About Montenegro

Montenegro is one of the newest official footballing nations in the world, and came into existence in 2007 following Montenegrin independence from Serbia. Mirko Vucinic was captain of Montenegro when the nation was established, and scored their first ever goal in a 2-1 friendly victory over Hungary. Elsad Zverotic has the most caps, while Stevan Jovetic has netted the most goals. As part of Serbia and Montenegro, and before that, Yugoslavia, they took part in 10 World Cup tournaments with their best performance coming in the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay in 1930.
