About Taça da Liga

Founded in 2007, the Taca de Liga is an annual club cup competition in Portugal. The tournament runs from August to May and is open to Portuguese professional teams from the top two divisions. It is a straight knockout format until the third round when the teams face each other in a round-robin group stage, with the semi and final taking place thereafter, with teams being drawn against each other from the first round all the way to the final, which usually takes place in a different stadium each year. Thirty-three teams enter the tournament each year, with Benfica winning the most titles in its history (7). The competition’s all-time leading goalscorer is Toze Marreco (12 goals).
