Founded in 1924, the Allsvenskan is the top division of Swedish football. It contains 16 teams. The season runs from April to November, and teams play each other both home and away to fulfil a total of 30 games. The Allsvenskan has promotion and relegation linked to the Superettan, the second tier. Two teams are relegated from the Allsvenskan, and two teams are promoted from the Superettan, each season, with another third position decided via a relegation/promotion play-off. Sixty-three different clubs have competed since its inception, with Malmo FF winning the most titles (23). The competition's all-time leading goalscorer is Sven Jonasson (254 goals).
