The Nigeria national team, known affectionately as the Super Eagles are one of the most successful nations from Africa and have won the Africa Cup of Nations three times in 1980, 1994, and 2013. 1994 was a vintage year for Nigeria they also qualified for their first World Cup tournament. They made it through a group which included Argentina, Bulgaria, and Greece. In the second round they took on the might of Italy and even took the lead against the Azzurri thanks to a goal from Emmanuel Amunike, but with just two minutes remaining, Roberto Baggio broke Nigerian hearts with a late equaliser before going on to score the winner in extra time. They qualified for four out of the next five World Cup tournaments, with the only absence coming in Germany in 2006. Two players hold the record for the most appearances in the famous green shirt – Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama. Rashidi Yekini has scored the most goals.
