Atletico Madrid dropped points in the Spanish title race for the fourth time in their last six league games in an eventful 0-0 draw with Getafe on Saturday night.

Diego Simeone’s side desperately needed all three points to keep a resurgent Real Madrid and Barcelona at arm’s length, but were ultimately forced to settle for one apiece following a stubborn and impressive defensive performance from the hosts.

The result means Atleti sit just six points above their cross-city rivals and could see that lead cut to just four if Barcelona win on Monday.

❌ Luis Suarez: 5.9

Luis Suarez has undoubtedly been one of the surprise packages in La Liga this season and one of the main driving forces behind Atletico’s somewhat surprising title challenge. And as such it was rather fitting that on a night in which Simeone’s side dropped more points in the league the Uruguayan striker put on a notably poor performance.

Despite having seven touches of the ball in the opposing box and 28 touches of the ball in general, Suarez managed just three shots towards goal but not a single one on target aside from a late shot off the left post. On a night Atletico threw everything at Getafe’s goal, they could have undoubtedly used a goal from their striker.

Saul Niguez: 5.3

In desperate need of goals and a dominating performance, Simeone needed a big performance from squad players like Saul Niguez that had been drafted into this tricky away tie and it’s not what he got in the end.

Saul managed just 17 passes and seven of those into the final third with a rather dismal passing accuracy of just 65 percent. The midfielder didn’t manage a single dribble, cross, shot or touch in the opposing box. Simply not good enough.

⭐ David Soria: 8.9

Despite an all-round team performance from the hosts, there’s no doubt that Getafe would have got away from Saturday night’s clash without the heroics of David Soria in goals.

Whether it came down to getting a hand to Kieran Trippier’s crosses, Yannick Carrasco shots or Moussa Dembele’s late rebounds, Soria somehow managed to get a spare limb to the ball to keep the ball out and put an almighty dent in Atletico’s title ambitions.
