Jurgen Klopp will once again ask Fabinho to step into the centre-back role for Liverpool's match against Sheffield United, with Virgil van Dijk likely to miss most of the season.

In last weekend's Merseyside derby, the big Dutchman was involved in a nasty collision with Jordan Pickford which resulted in a serious knee injury, putting him on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

Fabinho played at the back against Ajax and impressed, pulling off a magnificent bicycle kick goalline clearance to help side keep the clean sheet.

Thiago and Joel Matip were also injured in that game against Everton, with the former being scythed down by Richarlison in the last minute.

Both, however, are expected to be in contention to feature against the Blades on Saturday.

In the 1-0 away victory versus Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday, Sadio Mane was taken off around the hour mark and could be seen on the bench with an ice strapping around his leg.

Klopp has said it was simply a dead leg, though, which means the Senegal international should be fine for this weekend.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is out also.
