As Ecuador and Venezuela gear up for their opening clash in the 2024 Copa America, both teams are eager to kick off their campaigns with a win.

Here's a comprehensive preview, including team form, news, and predictions for this crucial encounter.

Team Form and Performance

Ecuador's Recent Form

Ecuador enters the tournament on the back of a strong run. They've secured successive wins against Bolivia and Honduras in their recent friendlies, showing good form.

Additionally, they only narrowly lost 1-0 to Argentina, demonstrating their competitive edge.

Felix Sanchez's side has also made a promising start to their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, sitting fifth with eight points from six matches, even edging out Brazil by a point.

Venezuela's Recent Form

In contrast, Venezuela has had a mixed set of results. Their last match was a goalless draw against Guatemala in March.

Prior to that, they suffered defeats to Colombia and Italy. Their last victory dates back to October 2023 against Chile.

Despite these setbacks, Venezuela has started their World Cup qualification campaign well, currently in fourth place, one point above Ecuador.

Team News

Ecuador's squad features several notable players. Bayer Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie and Eintracht Frankfurt's Willian Pacho are expected to start.

Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, set to earn his 43rd cap, will be pivotal in midfield. Young talent Kendry Paez, who will join Chelsea next year, is also likely to be in the lineup.

Veteran striker Enner Valencia, with 41 goals in 86 appearances, will lead the attack.

Ecuador Predicted Lineup

Dominguez; Preciado, Torres, Pacho, Hincapie; Ortiz, Caicedo; Yeboah, Paez, Sarmiento; Valencia

Venezuela will rely heavily on Salomon Rondon, who has 41 goals for the national team.

The attack will also feature Yeferson Soteldo and Jefferson Savarino. Girona's Yangel Herrera and Toulouse's Cristian Casseres are set to play crucial roles in midfield, while Philadelphia Union's Jose Martinez is also in contention.

Venezuela Predicted Lineup

Romo; Navarro, Makoun, Angel, Gonzalez; Casseres, Martinez, Herrera; Savarino, Rondon, Soteldo

Match Prediction

Given their recent form and squad depth, Ecuador seems slightly favoured in this matchup.

The team has shown resilience and the ability to compete against stronger opponents, and whilst Venezuela has quality players, their recent inconsistency might be a drawback.

Our Prediction: Ecuador 2-1 Venezuela
