Eight Chelsea players are currently self-isolating after returning from foreign holidays, interrupting the Blues' pre-season preparations.

At the end of last week, every member of staff and player involved with the first-team underwent coronavirus testing, and although it has not been confirmed by the club themselves if anyone has tested positive, the Telegraph reports that eight individuals are now self-isolating.

It could be the case that the players involved are simply following government guidelines to quarantine themselves after returning from abroad.

The names have not been released, but Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori were spotted on holiday together in Mykonos, while Ross Barkley, Jorginho, Michy Batshuayi and Emerson Palmieri were reportedly abroad also.

Chelsea are scheduled to take on Brighton in a pre-season friendly this weekend, with their Premier League season starting on 14 September, with the Seasiders once again their opponents.

The match this weekend will be the first time since the coronavirus outbreak that fans have been allowed back into a football match in England.

It has been a busy summer for Lampard and Chelsea, with the club flexing their financial muscle to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, and Ben Chilwell from Leicester for around £136m.

That could increase, too, as they remain strongly linked with Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz and Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid.
