Liverpool may have thought they’d got away with an undeserved win at Brighton on Saturday, if not for a late penalty for the home side to confirm a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Both sides had players that performed admirably and others that didn’t do so well.

So who were the best and worst performers on both sides?

✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCE

Pascal Gross: 7.1

Pascal Gross was a rock in the middle of Brighton’s midfield with 40 passes over the course of the match - which include 10 passes into the final third and four long balls - along with an impressive success rate of 90%.

Yet the pivotal role Gross played in helping his side earn a point against the reigning champions was when he stepped up in extra time and converted the all-important penalty to equalise the match.

Diogo Jota: 6.9

While Liverpool’s defence will receive much of the criticism aimed at their performance on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp will probably be just as disappointed in seeing his attacking line offer very little up front.

Fortunately for the Anfield side, Diogo Jota was on hand to offer a rare moment of magic when he received the ball on the edge of the Brighton box and darted inside to squeeze the ball into the back of the net through a mesh of diving defenders.

BAD PERFORMANCE

Neal Maupay: 5.6

Although Brighton fans will be cherishing their draw with Liverpool, it could have all ended in tears after a first half that suggested the home side had blown their one chance of stealing a lead on their hosts.

In the 20th minute Neal Maupay stepped up the penalty spot after Neco Williams brought Aaron Connolly down in the box, but managed to miss the goal entirely with his effort. Six minutes later he was forced off with an injury. Perhaps an afternoon for the striker to forget all about.

STAR MAN

Yves Bissouma: 7.4

In a football match that required defensive discipline and a superb reading of the game, the most impressive player on the park was unquestionably Brighton’s holding midfielder Yves Bissouma.

No player on the pitch attempted and succeeded in winning more tackles throughout the match than the Mali midfielder, who was also joint-top with Andy Robertson for recoveries made by outfield players.

As well as his defensive responsibilities, Bissouma also made more dribbles than any other player on the pitch and while they may not have led to goals or assists they provided necessary moments of respite for his side throughout a game that Liverpool tried but struggled to control from start to finish.
