About MLS

Founded in 1993, Major League Soccer is the top division of football in the United States and Canada. The league is split into two, the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, with the regular season taking place between March and October. In the regular campaign, teams play a total of 34 matches – 23 against team from their own conference, and 11 against the other. Whoever has the most points at this stage is awarded the Supporters’s Shield. Thereafter, the top six teams go into a play-off and contest the MLS Cup.Twenty-five different clubs have competed since its inception, LA Galaxy winning the most titles (5). The competition’s all-time leading goalscorer is Landon Donovan (145 goals).
