Portugal will have to be at their very best on Sunday if they are to get beyond a Belgium team that have a dogged determination to win Euro 2020.

For manager Fernando Santos that will undoubtedly mean a return to more conservative tactics and perhaps some unpopular selection decisions.

Indeed the Portugal manager is likely to stick with the same back line that earned his team a point against World Cup winners France, with the minor change of Diogo Dalot coming in for the injured Nelson Semedo.

However, it will be in midfield that Santos will need to make a huge call. Bruno Fernandes is undoubtedly one of Portugal’s best players, but his creative, cavalier approach to the game often leaves his team exposed and as such the European champions may opt for a midfield trio of Danilo Pereira, Joao Moutinho and Renato Sanches instead.

Up front, we’re likely to see Portugal stick with Diogo Jota on the left, Bernardo Silva on the right and Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle as the team’s main goal threat.

For the Belgians, things are far more straightforward. Robert Martinez is likely to bring back a number of star players, that were afforded the opportunity to sit out the nation’s final group game against Finland.

That will likely mean a return in defence for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, who will make up the back three with Dedryck Boyata. Similarly, Thomas Meunier should return to his normal position of right wing-back.

Elsewhere, Leicester City midfield maestro Youri Tielemans is likely to return to midfield, which will allow Kevin de Bruyne to push up into a more advanced position to support Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku in attack.
