Major headaches for Los Blancos - How Real Madrid could line up against Alaves

Real Madrid will be without an array of stars as Carlo Ancelotti seeks to make it two wins from two in La Liga this season

Real Madrid are seeking to continue their winning start to their Primera Division season by overcoming Levante on Sunday.

Los Blancos kicked off their campaign last weekend in impressive style as they overcame Alaves 4-1, with all the goals coming in the second half.

Carlo Ancelotti will hope the momentum from that fixture continues when he takes his side to Valencia.

The Italian, however, has significant injury headaches before this trip.

Left-back is a particular issue for Madrid ahead of this encounter. Ferland Mendy is missing because of complications caused by a calf injury last season, which will see him sit out until at least the September international break. In addition, Marcelo, who would typically be his back up, is also sidelined. David Alaba could fill in again.

Dani Carvajal is a doubt at right-back, with Lucas Vazquez poised to fill that role.

Meanwhile, there are further complications in the midfield where veteran star Luka Modric is out along with Germany international Toni Kroos. Allied to that, Dani Ceballos is missing and that sector of the team has been further depleted by the loss of Martin Odegaard to Arsenal.

Madrid still have some depth, with Fede Valverde and Isco potential partners for Casemiro in the centre, but beyond this trio they are quickly running out of options.

The attacking line looks strong on paper, with Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard set to flank Karim Benzema in what is a highly experienced and super-expensive front three.

Even with a depleted squad, Madrid start this match as strong favourites but options on the bench look thin, especially in midfield and defence.
