Founded in 1891, the Argentina Primera Division is the top division of Argentine football. The season runs from August to May and from the 2018-19 campaign onwards it will have 26 teams who will play each other once for a total of 25 matches. The Primera Division has promotion and relegation linked to the Primera B Nacional, the second tier. Relegation is based on an average point system, where each year teams are relegated based on their average points from the past three campaigns.
