About Kyrgyz Rep.

The Kyrgyzstan national football team has only been in existence since the early 1990s. Formerly part of the Soviet Union, the nation gained declared independence in 1991 and played their first official match as a recognised Fifa country in August 1992 when they lost 3-0 against Uzbekistan in the Central Asia Tournament. In their short history, they have so far failed to qualify for a World Cup, and this can be partly attributed to a lack of interest in the sport in the country. However, the appointment of Sergey Dvoryankov saw the nation’s organisation and development increase, with more emphasis put on the sport than ever before. Under another Russian head coach, Aleksandr Krestinin, they qualified for their first ever Asian Cup – the 2019 edition of the tournament. In the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, they recorded impressive wins over more reputable nations, Jordan and Tajikistan. Vadim Kharchenko has the most caps for his nation.
