Egypt national team's history could be described as hot and cold. On their home continent of Africa they are the most successful nation ever and have won a record seven Africa Cup of Nations titles, emerging victorious in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010. The dominance of The Pharaohs in Africa has led to them being one of only three African nations to break into the top 10 of Fifa's world rankings. Egypt were the first African or Middle Eastern nation to qualify for the World Cup in 1934, but have only qualified twice subsequently in 1990 and 2018. Their most capped player, Ahmed Hassan, not only has the most appearances for Egypt, but also in the history of men’s international football with 184. Their top scorer is Hossam Hassan who represented his country for 21 years. Al Ahly and Zamalek are the most prestigious clubs in domestic football.
