About Côte d'Ivoire

The Cote d'Ivoire national football team have only recent made an impact on the world stage, largely due to the emergence of their Golden Generation which included Didier Drogba, Didier Zokora, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Gervinho, and Salomon Kalou. They have qualified for three World Cup tournaments in their history consecutively in 2006, 2010, and 2014, but failed to exit the group on each occasion, winning just one game each time. They have enjoyed better success on their own continent, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992, 11-10 on penalties against Ghana after a 0-0 draw, and in 2015 when they won 9-8 on penalties, against versus Ghana. Zokora has the most caps for his nation, while Drogba has scored the most goals. The Elephants enjoyed their highest Fifa ranking in 2013 when they reached as high as 12, with that generation of players recognised as one of the best in African football history.
