About Copa Sudamericana

Founded in 1891, the Argentina Primera Division is the top division of Argentine football. The season runs from August to May and from the 2018-19 campaign onwards it will have 26 teams who will play each other once for a total of 25 matches. The Primera Division has promotion and relegation linked to the Primera B Nacional, the second tier. Relegation is based on an average point system, where each year teams are relegated based on their average points from the past three campaigns. River Plate have won the most titles since the competition’s inception (36) and its all-time leading goalscorer is Arsenio Erico (295).
