About Copa America

Founded in 1916, the Copa America is the biggest international football tournament in South America. Tournaments take place between three and five years apart, depending on the presence of other international competitions. Every member of the CONMEBOL jurisdiction in South America competes, with two other countries awarded an invite to make 12 teams. The tournament proper sees the nations compete in a group stage which is followed by knockout rounds until the final. Uruguay has won the most Copa America titles (15) while the all-time leading goalscorers are Zizinho and Norberto Mendez (17 goals).
