About A League

Founded in 2004, the Australian A-League is the top division of Australian and New Zealand football. It contains 10 teams. The regular season runs from October to April, with teams playing each other three times for a total of 27 matches, with the team on top at the end winning the Premier. Thereafter, the Finals Series takes place which sees the top six teams from the regular season face each other in a knockout tournament to determine the A-League champions, which is different from the A-League Premiers. Thirteen different clubs have competed since its inception, with Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC winning the most championships and premierships. The competition’s all-time leading goalscorer is Besart Berisha (116 goals).
