Due to the likes of Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil being some of the most successful and prestigious footballing nations in the world, you could be forgiven for assuming that every country in South America is a hotbed for football. This is not the case, however, for Venezuela, who actually enjoys baseball as the most popular sport. The decreased interest in football has meant that Venezuela are the only team from South America to have never qualified for the Fifa World Cup, with many campaigns being sidelined due to a lack of interest. Copa America tournaments have also suffered, but Venezuela did manage to finish fourth in 2011. In recent years, football has enjoyed an increased interest in the country, but their performance for World Cup in 2018 didn't improve, managing just two wins in 18 matches to finish bottom of the Conmebol section.
