Man City boss Pep Guardiola wins his 500th game as a manager

Pep Guardiola celebrated his 500th win as a manager on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 win for his Manchester City side over Sheffield United.

Known as a coach who plays with a sense of attacking flair, Guardiola reached the landmark success in uninspiring fashion as a sole goal from Gabriel Jesus won a fixture that was tight and otherwise unremarkable.

Nevertheless, Guardiola’s achievement has been made in just 673 matches, testimony to the outstanding record he has enjoyed at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now Man City. It means he boasts as career win percentage of 72.3%.

Guardiola’s senior coaching career began at Barcelona, where he took charge of the first team after a year with the reserves. He was immediately a success at the club where he spent the vast majority of his playing career.

Playing a brand of tiki-taka football, led by all-time greats such as Xavi, Andre Iniesta and Lionel Messi, he enjoyed four years at Camp now, winning 179 of the 247 matches he took charge of there.

After a one-year sabbatical, Guardiola returned to football in 2013 with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. He spent three years with FCB and enjoyed a dominant 124 wins from 161 matches.
