Diego Maradona gets Naples subway station in also named in his honour following the death of the club's greatest player last week

The city of Naples has also named a subway station in tribute to Diego Armando Maradona, after officially renaming the Stadio San Paolo in his honour yesterday.

Maradona's death last week at the age of 60 sent the footballing world into mourning.

Tributes have flooded in from all four corners of the globe for the iconic Argentina and Napoli legend.

Napoli announced in the immediate aftermath of his death that they intended to rename the Stadio San Paolo in his memory.

The official announcement came yesterday, with the stadium now being called the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

However the city of Naples has also renamed a subway station in his honour.

The station formerly known as Mostra, which is the one closest to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, has been renamed in his honour.

The unveiling came today, with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis present.

Maradona played for Napoli for seven seasons, from 1984 to 1991, helping the southern side to win two Scudetti, a UEFA Cup and an Italian SuperCup in the late 1980s and early '90s.
