Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane praised his side's 'character' in the aftermath of their narrow 1-0 away win against Sevilla.

Los Blancos are going through somewhat of a difficult patch, with Zidane already losing the same amount of games this season as Real did in the entitreity of last.

They are also in grave danger of failing to quality for the Champions League knockout rounds for the first time since the competition was reformatted in 1992.

Real are third in their group, and have to beat Borussia Monchengladbach to win. If they don't, they could finish bottom, or drop down into the Europa League.

Speaking in his post-game interview, Zidane hailed his side's mentality.

"It is a team with character," said Zidane. "I don't think the same as you, but it's true that there are times when playing every three days, playing at a high level from time to time, is hard for us."

"But hey, in the end that is always going to happen to us because we never stop. The important thing is to recover and think about the next game," he continued.

"It will not stop. All the games are going to be important. If from time to time we have difficulties, we know it and we have to fix some things and when we fix them we can be very competitive and difficult to win."

Zidane then complimented Brazilian pair Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior on their performances:

"Especially first in defence. We all worked very well in defence, helping each other. And then it was known that there were possibilities of hurting the opponent with counterattacks, such as Vini's goal.

"It wasn't our best moment because we had more chances before. It is the importance of believing in what we do. It's a good game because the rival is complicated, in their field… I'm happy for the boys ”.

Following their vital Champions League clash against Monchengladbach next week, Real play Atletico Madrid in the derby on Saturday, and believes today's win was integral preparation for what is on the horizon.

“It is important [the win]. The last few days have been complicated and it is a team that has character, that wants challenges. Today the victory is very important for what is coming now," said Zidane.
