Aston Villa played their first Champions League match on Tuesday and won in emphatic fashion 3-0 away versus Young Boys.

The club are, of course, no stranger to European competition as they won the Europen Cup in 1982 before the creation of the Champions League.

They were thrown a kind fixture for their first one, and they took the opportunity with both hands.

Villa headed into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans and Jacob Ramsey.

Young Boys never showed much and eventually went 3-0 down late on, with Amadou Onana getting on the scoresheet.

Player of the Match

Tielemans controlled this game in midfield from start to finish and his influence could be felt throughout. A goal and an assist were obviously the highlights of the game for the Belgian, but his overall play was excellent.

He took three shots on goal, two of which came on target and sent 22 passes into dangerous positions in the final third.

Interestingly, Tielemans actually lost the majority of his duels but he more than made up for that with his quality in possession as he misplaces just four out of 56 attempted balls to team-mates.

Nobody in the game touched the ball more times than him, with 71.

Worst Player

Forward Mechack Elia was brought on at half-time to try and turn around Young Boy's fortunes, but he faired even worse than any of his team-mates than played in the opening 45 minutes.
