No-one saw that result coming.
Aston Villa demolished champions Liverpool 7-2 in a game where nearly every shot hit found its way into the net.
But who starred, and who had a night to forget?
〽️ Top: Players
After a summer of being linked with Manchester United, Jack Grealish showed them all of his abilities in a stunning display.
The playmaker scored twice and assisted three times in a virtuoso performance, teaming superbly with Ollie Watkins, who himself netted a hat-trick in the match. He set up his team-mate by closing down Adrian and cut the ball back to him, while he played in the same player for the second.
He also provided the ball to Ross Barkley who made it five, then got in on the act himself, firstly smashing home a deflected effort then dinking past Adrian after running clear.
Watkins had to wait to break his duck in the Premier League but boy did he do it in style.
His first goal was slid home after poor passing from Adrian created the chance, but the second was all about the former Brentford man, racing down the left before cutting inside and lashing his shot into the top corner.
And then he completed his hat-trick when Trezeguet lashed his shot across goal allowing Watkins to nod into the empty net.
He also provided an assist to Grealish in the second half and could have had four but his shot was denied by the crossbar. What a display!
❌ Worst of the Match: Adrian - 3.4
There's very little positive to be said about a goalkeeper who Liverpool fans already had doubts about it, and who realised them in this brutal loss.
His poor play in possession led to Liverpool losing the ball and Ollie Watkins starting the rout, and from there, he seemed to be in the wrong position at every turn.
Three of the goals were deflections, but Liverpool deserve a better performance than this.
Gomez looked slow, cumbersome and out of position for pretty much the entirety of this contest.
Watkins gave him the runaround, and he looked particularly culpable as Watkins easily moved inside him to lash into the top corner to make it 2-0.
But in truth it was an entire day to forget for a player who has looked so accomplished. Everyone is allowed an off-day.
