Pulisic out - How Chelsea could line up against Sheffield United

A convincing win over Rennes on Tuesday night might see Frank Lampard keep faith in the same starting XI

Frank Lampard may name an unchanged lineup against struggling Sheffield United on Saturday following yet another impressive performance in midweek.

A fifth consecutive clean sheet, in all competitions, helped Chelsea to a 3-0 victory over Rennes at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, and the days of frailties at the back seem over for the Blues.

Goals came courtesy of a Timo Werner double, both from the penalty spot, and a third from Tammy Abraham, who became the first player to score in three consecutive Champions League starts for Chelsea since Willian achieved the feat back in 2015.

With yet another convincing win, albeit against 10 men for 50 minutes, it's seems as though Lampard has managed to gel the new signings firing together, a scary thought for Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

With 10 goals scored and zero conceded in their last three games, Chelsea look dangerous.

However, a notable absentee from the travelling Chelsea squad is Kai Havertz who has tested positive for coronavirus and will therefore be unavailable as he is currently self-isolating.

Add this to the hamstring issue suffered by Christian Pulisic in the warm-up against Burnley and Chelsea don't look as threatening.

However, the aforementioned Abraham looks sharp and will most likely be given the nod up front once again.

Hakim Ziyech is yet to hit top form, but still has three goal contributions in three starts, and will slot in on the right hand side of Lampard's 4-3-3.

Although the season started with a 4-2-3-1, it's become clear that 4-3-3 is the way to go; just look at the Burnley game.

Mason Mount perfectly suits the no.8 role in the new system and alongside him is likely to be N'Golo Kante, just like against Rennes.

The only potential change in the back four could be Cesar Azpilcueta for Reece James, but the Englishmen's excellent delivery was demonstrated for Abraham's goal on Wednesday night and could be crucial against Sheffield United.
