The UEFA Nations League is back ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and Scotland will certainly be eager to perform against Poland on Thursday after they suffered through an extremely disappointing European Championships in the summer.

The other two teams in Group A are Portugal and Croatia.

Match Preview

Scotland recent form

Despite the Germany takeover from the Tartan Army, Scotland were one of the worst teams at the Euros in June and July. They accumulated just one point and scored just two goals in a group alongside Germany, Switzerland and Hungary,

In the opening game of the tournament, they were humbled 5-1 by the hosts. Many fans questioned whether the performances may lead to Steve Clarke's dismissal, but he remains to fight on in the Nations League.

Scotland injury news

The Scotland squad has a fresher look about it.

Four previously uncapped players - Ben Doak, Ryan Gauld, Max Johnston and Robbie McCrorie - were called up. However, McCrorie has already been replaced by Jon McCracken due to injury.

Liam Kelly, Jack Hendry, Ross McCrorie, Kieran Tierney, Liam Cooper, Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Jack all miss out, having been in the squad in the summer.

One major blow for Clarke is that influential midfielder Callum McGregor has opted to retire from international football.

Lyndon Dykes missed the Euros due to injury, but has been included again.

There are fitness concerns over Che Adams, Billy Gilmour, Scott McTominay and Lewis Morgan.

Poland recent form

Poland didn't exactly light up the Euros, either, as they also claimed just one point, this time in a group alongside the Netherlands, Austria and France.

The point was earned in a 1-1 draw versus Les Bleus.

Poland injury news

Wojciech Szczesny and Kamil Grosicki retired from international football after the Euros, while Arkadiusz Milik remains out with a serious knee injury.

Star man Robert Lewandowski is in the squad.

Scotland - Player to Watch?

With McGregor no longer available and fitness issues concerning Gilmour and McTominay, there will be added pressure on the shoulders of John McGinn, who is line to earn his 70th cap against Poland on Thursday.

Poland - Player to Watch?

Lewandowski has scored 83 goals for Poland and isn't showing signs of slowing down in that department.

Scotland vs Poland - Prediction

Scotland will fancy themselves to win at Hampden as they have won six of their last seven home matches, while Poland have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five.

Scoreline prediction: Scotland 2-1 Poland
