Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign a world class number nine as soon as possible, as he believes Anthony Martial "conned" the fans into believing he was one last season.
Following the Premier League recommending after lockdown in March, United went on an excellent run, with new signing Bruno Fernandes catalysing a major improvement in performances, particularly in attacking areas.
One of the players who benefitted was Martial, who enjoyed a rich vein of goalscoring form in the latter portion of the campaign to help United to third.

However, Scholes reckons this ultimately tricked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the fans into believing that he was capable of leading the line for the club long-term.
"These forwards are exceptionally talented lads. We all know that," Scholes, who took over as interim boss of Salford City, the club he co-owns, this week, told Stadium Astro.
"The problem with United’s forwards is that none of them is an actual centre-forward.
"Martial almost conned us into thinking he was one at the end of last season because he scored so many goals and was quite good.

"He’s started this season quite poorly again, which makes you think he isn’t. It’s misleading. That’s why I’ve kept saying we need a top-class No. 9."
Man Utd did secure reinforcements in the attacking area on deadline day in the form of free agent Edinson Cavani.
However, it is not a long-term solution to their centre-forward issue as the Uruguayan will turn 34 before the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
The Old Trafford side have started the season poorly, and were recently hammered 6-1 at home by Jose Mourinho's Tottenham.
