Said Benrahma has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, but he could well be playing in the Premier League with Brentford next season after his hat-trick defeated Wigan 3-0 at Griffin Park.

How did Benrahma play overall?

📷 Match Snapshot

The Algerian started on the left of a front three and produced a direct display more akin to a conventional winger. He sent six crosses into the area, more than any other player on the field, and no one made more passes in the final third, with 24.

But it was his goals that set his performance apart.

⏱️ 19' During some pinball in the area the ball dropped onto the foot of the 24-year-old and he instinctively caught his effort on the volley to drill low across the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.

⏱️ 57' There was more than an element of luck about the second goal, as he twisted and turned on the left flank before appearing to float a cross into the area, only for the ball to drop into the net at the back post, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.

⏱️ 66' And the hat-trick was completed with 24 minutes remaining, breaking into the area from deep to lash the ball home from the edge of the area.

Brentford 3-0 Wigan: Full Player Ratings and Statisitics

of Benrahma's game-high six shots on goal, four of them were on target and three found the net. He touched the ball eight times inside the opposition area, joint most in the game, and was generally a real problem that Wigan just couldn't deal with.

His overall outing earned him a perfect 10 FC Rating.

〽️ Rating Week-on-Week

✔️ IMPROVEMENT

In Brentford's easy 3-0 win at Reading Benrahma was largely on the periphery of the action, earning an average 6.6 FC Rating for his performance.

But here he showed the type of matchwinner he is capable of being, running the contest and giving the Bees a real chance of automatic promotion.

What Next?

There has been plenty of talk of Benrahma moving in the summer because he deserves to play at a higher level. But what if he could do it with Brentford?

The west London club are on an unbelievable run and have put real pressure on promotion chasers Leeds and WBA. Why should he consider seeking a transfer when he could play at that level for the club that have given him the platform to show his talents?

There are still five games remaining and Brentford need those ahead of them to slip up. But a club as well-run as them could easily give the 24-year-old a platform and financial package in the Premier League next season.
