Casemiro says it is a pleasure to play alongside his Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, whom he believes is "writing his name into the history books" at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Although underwhelming at times, Los Blancos took advantage of an awful season from Barcelona to win La Liga in 2019/20 last season.

Despite featuring in defence, Ramos was often the difference maker, whether that be through a towering defensive performance or a match-winning goal.

His importance to the team has continued into 2020/21 when he is once again their talisman.

Casemiro, who has won two titles and four Champions League alongside the legendary Spaniard, has praised his team-mate's leadership qualities.

“Sergio is a leader in the dressing room and on the field," he said ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League game against Inter on Wednesday.

"It’s a pleasure to have shared all these years with him. What he’s doing now is writing his name in the club’s history books.

“He’s a player who never gives up. He always wants to fight and he always wants to win. He pushes the team forward, and he’s a leader and a role model for us.”

Madrid will have to contend with Ramos for the trip to the San Siro, in what has arguably became a must-win game for Los Blancos if they retain any aspirations of topping the group.

After starting their campaign with a surprising loss versus Shakhtar, they drew with Gladbach before very narrowly defeating Inter before the international break.

They are currently third in Group B.
