Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has included four Liverpool players in his FIFA Ultimate Team of the Year.

Despite the historic rivalry between the two teams, Ferdinand still included four players from the Reds as they swept to their first league title for 30 years in 2019/20.

Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk all made the line-up.

Ferdinand's rearguard consisted of Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk, with Sergio Ramos, a transfer target for the Red Devils, and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies completing the four-man defence.

In midfield, Ferdinand opted for a three. Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne is included alongside Bayern Munich duo Thiago and Joshua Kimmich.

In attack, Ferdinand has surprisingly left out Barcelona's Lionel Messi, despite the Argentine genius scoring 25 goals in La Liga last season.

He has, however, included former team-mate and Messi's eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese striker netted 44 goals in the calendar year for Juventus and Portugal.

Ronaldo is flanked by Bayern's Robert Lewandowski and Mane.

Lewandowski was pivotal to the German side's success as they won the Champions League and Bundesliga, with the Pole scoring 55 goals in 2019/20, including 15 goals in Europe.

Mane, meanwhile, was instrumental to Liverpool's success last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions for The Reds.
