Rennes winger Raphinha has completed a move to Leeds, with a £17m fee plus incentives accepted and a deal completed right at the end of deadline day.

But what kind of player are Leeds getting?

The former Sporting wide player has spent just a single season in Ligue 1 but has already attracted scouts to his talents. He helped his Rennes team to qualify for the Champions League in this truncated season and was one of the best performers in doing so.

He is a player who likes to dribble - very typically Brazilian in that sense - and while he needs to improve his success rate in that regard, he created seven Big Chances from wide, one of the best in his position in the division, while he is a regular crosser of the ball into the area.

From a Leeds perspective, they have lacked depth in the wide areas; Jack Harrison and Helder Costa are required to play almost every game and the only cover is really on the left in the form of Ezgjan Alioski.

From this regard his profile is logical and fits with Marcelo Bielsa's role of the wide players - play wide and be willing to spin and run in behind as part of a fast transition towards goal.

Raphinha has pace to burn and while a step up to the Premier League may be a little early, he will learn in a formation and team which can get the best out of him.
