There was one outstanding performance in the round, coming from Leicester City, who took advantage of Newcastle's generous nature to put in a virtuoso display in a 5-0 trouncing.

Elsewhere Frank Lampard earned his first league win at Stamford Bridge as Jorginho inspired them to victory over Brighton.

From his role as somewhat of a pariah in the days of Maurizio Sarri - always an unfair tag - Jorginho seems far happier with his role and position under Frank Lampard and turned in perhaps his best Chelsea display in the 2-0 win over Brighton. A third of his 62 completed passes were into the final third, while he won 2/2 tackles, made nine ball recoveries, four interceptions and two clearances. He also showed composure to slot home the opening goal from the penalty spot in his inimitable style.

Man City were having a difficult time of it away at Everton before Riyad Mahrez drifted into the match and made the difference. With the score tied at 1-1, the Algerian swerved his free-kick into the corner to score an invaluable goal and his general touch, dribbling and spatial awareness was of the highest level. He should have had at least one assist, too, when Ilkay Gundogan somehow cracked his wonderful cross off the underside of the crossbar.

With full-backs playing such an important role in the modern game it's important they be comfortable on the ball, and only Trent Alexander-Arnold - another full-back, had more touches in this round than Chilwell. He set the agenda from the left, completing 91 passes, an astonishing 47 of those into the final third as Leicester totally dominated their opponents. Seven recoveries, five crosses, three interceptions and three clearances also contributed to an all-round excellent display.

Vardy is one of the most consistent finishers in the Premier League and he shows no signs of slowing down, here giving Newcastle an absolutely torrid time. His first goal was opportunist, firing home from an acute angle, before peeling off at the back post to claim a double. Newcastle were poor but still needed beating, and Vardy proved to be ruthless in victory.

Ndidi is looking like the long-term successor to N'Golo Kante in the Leicester midfield and he displayed how he has developed an all-round game in the centre of the Leicester midfield and he was outstanding again against hapless Newcastle. As well as a lovely goal, he completed 56/61 passes, 12 recoveries and five interceptions. He simply ran over the top of an opposition midfield who couldn't match him in any way.

    HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Most of Leicester's team were in superb form in that match and could have quite easily filled the top five themselves, but away from that fixture Fabinho (8.1) was the outstanding performer as Liverpool's win over Sheffield United was a little more convincing than the 1-0 scoreline suggests.
