There's an interesting clash at Fir Park in the opening game of the Scottish Premiership season as Motherwell host Ross County.
It was a season to forget for both clubs in 2023/24 as they finished in the bottom half of the table, while Ross County had to rely on victory in the relegation playoff against Raith Rovers to secure safety in the Premiership.

This may be the beginning of the league season, but Motherwell have already had plenty of competitive action in the League Cup Group Stage.
In that competition, they have defeated Edinburgh City, Montrose (pens) and Clyde, while they lost against Partick Thistle on penalties.
There was huge controversy in that Partick game as the Glasgow side requested the game be replayed after they were refused the opportunity to bring on sub Ricco Diack due to a faulty system for listing the available substitutes.

As for County, they have been flawless in the League Cup, winning all four games against Stranraer, Raith Rovers, Hamilton Accies and Stirling Albion.

Callum Slattery, Harry Paton and Sam Nicholson, as well as new signings Ross Callachan and Johnny Koutroumbis are all either injured or are a major doubt.
County's squad is looking a bit healthier as Don Cowie will likely only be without Rickie Lamie, who had to be taken off against Stirling Albion due to an Acchilles issue.
