Manchester United secured a much-needed 3-0 win over Southampton in their Premier League clash, delivering their first dominant victory of the season. Goals from Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford, and a stoppage-time strike from Alejandro Garnacho sealed the result.

The Reds showcased a solid team performance overall, controlling 56% possession and registering 10 shots on target.

Southampton Player Ratings

Southampton found themselves overwhelmed by United’s pressing and quick transitions, with only a few players managing to put in commendable performances. Aaron Ramsdale stood out as the best player for the Saints with a 7.0 rating, making several important stops to prevent further damage. However, the defensive unit struggled to contain United's attacks, with defenders such as Jan Bednarek and Kyle Walker-Peters receiving underwhelming ratings of 6.0 and 5.9, respectively.

In attack, Cameron Archer failed to impose himself, earning a rating of just 5.7. While Southampton showed brief moments of quality, particularly through the midfield with Flynn Downes getting a 6.5, their overall performance was subpar. Their inability to convert possession into tangible chances was a recurring theme throughout the match.

United’s players were impressive across the board, with Matthijs de Ligt leading the charge from the back. The Dutchman’s commanding presence earned him a rating of 8.1, bolstered by his opening goal in the 35th minute. Marcus Rashford managed to find some form, netting a goal and terrorising Southampton’s defence throughout, achieving a solid 7.2 rating.

Bruno Fernandes was integral in orchestrating attacks from midfield, receiving a 7.3 rating for his efforts. In goal, André Onana was reliable when called upon, registering an 8.1 rating with several key saves to maintain the clean sheet.
