Manchester United transfer target Andre Silva gave a strong account of himself for Eintracht Frankfurt, despite a 2-1 defeat by Werder Bremen on Friday.

The former Porto and Milan striker hit his 10th goal of 2021 to drawn himself level with Lionel Messi as the leading marksman in Europe since the turn of the year.

His stellar performance, though, was not enough for Frankfurt to take anything from the game, yet it was a display that would have caught the eye of suitors around Europe.

Here’s why…

⏱️ 9' A corner is taken quickly on the left before Werder Bremen have the opportunity to set their defence. Filip Kostic hurls in a cross that Andre Silva rises to head with power and accuracy into the very top corner of the net.

Although the striker was unable to score again, he was the greatest threat for Frankfurt in a match they largely dominated. Shortly after opening the scoring, he bustled free in the box but was denied from a tight angle.

He finished the match with the most shots, most shots on target and most touches in the box of anyone on the field.

〽️ Andre Silva: Rating Week-on-Week

HOLDING STEADY

Andre Silva has been on such a blistering stretch of individual form, Friday’s game was unremarkable by his present standards.

He finished with a 7.5 FC Rating, which is only his fifth best score of the year in his 10th match. That in itself is a remarkable and praiseworthy achievement.

He has now scored in his last five games, and this, incredibly, was his second-poorest rating.

Andre Silva: What Next?

Frankfurt, whose Champions League hopes have been rocked by this surprise defeat, will attempt to bounce back next week when they face another mid-table side in the form of Stuttgart.

Eight days later, they have a huge match against title hopefuls RB Leipzig.

If their top-four aspirations are not to be rocked further, they will need Andre Silva to maintain this incredible streak. If he does, however, they will do well to fend off mounting interest.
