But how did the players rate in this underwhelming contest?

✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCE

Luke Shaw: 7.4

The United defender has been fit for a spell now and he is looking better with every match, culminating in his solid display here.

The left-back won 4/4 tackles and six of his nine duels as he stood firm against first Riyad Mahrez and then Ferran Torres. He can be encouraged by his performance and the expectation of more to come.

BAD PERFORMANCE

Marcus Rashford: 5.5

The talented attacker has a penalty call denied for offside but besides from that was completely on the periphery of this game and never looked like breaking City down.

He flashed a shot wide of the post in the second half when gaining a rare yard on the defence but, ultimately, Rashford's display was as flat as the occasion.

STAR MAN

John Stones: 7.5

The City defender has enjoyed a renaissance of late and is playing regular for the first time in a long time, and here he produced another solid if unspectacular display.

He made 86 passes with a 97% completion, though much of it was ball retention, while he made an interception and 10 recoveries. But it's not a performance, or a game, which many will remember.
