Serbia finished their Nations League campaign in explosive style to fend off relegation, with a 5-0 win over Russia carrying them above Turkey and keeping them at UEFA’s B level.

Luka Jovic was an inspiration in the one-sided encounter, as he scored two goals and laid on another one.

Indeed, it proved to be a satisfactory end to a somewhat satisfying international week for the out-of-favour Real Madrid hitman, who returned three goals and two assists in three games.

Serbia made an express start to the game and grabbed the lead after 10 minutes through Marseille winger Nemanja Radonjic.

⏱️ 25' Jovic started to make a telling impression on 25 minutes when a long period of Serbian possession was rewarded with a thumping header from the striker. It doubled his side’s lead.

A ⏱️ 41' On 40 minutes he made another decisive contribution. A stinging shot from the edge of the box was not held by Guilherme, and Dusan Vlahovic followed up to score.

⏱️ 45+1' Before half-time arrived, the game was sealed by Jovic. Filip Mladenovic, who was the architect for his opening goal, was again the creator, with another centre met with a firm header.

The second half was less spectacular, but Serbia scored again through Mladenovic to seal a 5-0 win, with Jovic getting 90 valuable minutes in his legs.

〽️ Jovic: Rating Week-on-Week

✔️ IMPROVEMENT

Given how sparingly Jovic has been used at Real Madrid, it is little surprise he has enjoyed an upward trend on international duty. He scored an FC Rating of 7.3 against Scotland, then an FC Rating of 7.5 against Hungary before hitting a perfect FC Rating of 10 in this encounter.

Luka Jovic: What Next?

Jovic’s challenge when he returns to Real Madrid is to get more playing time. The 22-year-old only has 208 minutes of club football behind him this season, which is not enough to hit top form. This performance will have been noticed by Zinedine Zidane, though.
