RB Salzburg made it into the Champions League group stage for the second season running after defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-1 in the playoff second leg on Wednesday.

The Austrian side will make it into the group stage draw on Thursday largely due to the efforts of star player Patson Daka, who has been strongly linked with a move to both Liverpool and Tottenham in this transfer window.

📷 Daka: Match Snapshot

The 21-year-old proved to be the match winner with a goal in either half, taking Salzburg through with a 5-2 aggregate victory.

⏱️ 16' With just 16 minutes on the clock, he opened the scoring and made it 4-1 on aggregate after an instinctive snapshot near the edge of the box with his left foot which flashed past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner

Salzburg would continue to hammer down at the door of the visitors, and although the Israeli side would equalise on the half-hour mark, Dominik Szoboszla would restore the lead with a late penalty in the first half.

The tie was basically over after that, but Daka still looked hungry for goals in the second period.

⏱️ 68' He got one with 22 minutes remaining, displaying another aspect to his game with a towering header into the right corner which proved too hot to handle for the goalkeeper.

Although Daka wasn't involved too much in the build-up play, he completed 16/22 attempted passes, with 12 of those being sent into dangerous areas in the final third.

He probably should have had more than just the two goals on the night as he had five shots in total with four of them hitting the target.

Overall, he enjoyed 41 touches of the ball.

He earned a 8.6 FC Rating.

Daka: What Next?

Things could go one of two ways for Daka:

He could remain with Salzburg and continue to dominate domestically while putting himself in the shop window in the Champions League.

Or, someone could make a bid for him before the transfer window closes. Tottenham, in particular, could really be doing with someone like him.
