Following a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen last weekend, Bayern Munich will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they visit Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Head coach Hansi Flick will take encouragement from his side’s 3-1 victory over RB Salzburg in the Champions League in midweek, which not only showcased a desire to bounce back from a poor result but also allowed the Bayern manager to welcome back a few injured players.
For example, left-back Lucas Hernandez went off injured against Bremen but was given around 30 minutes of game time against Salzburg and should step into the full-back role, in place of the inexperienced Chris Richards.
Bayern may also be able to welcome back central defender Niklas Sule, who didn’t feature in midweek but was reportedly at the club’s training ground working on his fitness during the week. However Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich remain out with long-term injuries.
In midfield Flick will most likely have to make do without Corentin Tolisso in midfield, while the French midfield still regains his fitness after an injury. The Bayern manager tried to combat this by playing Jamal Musiala against Bremen and then Marc Roca against Sazlbug. Despite a red card for the latter, it’s likely that he’ll keep his place alongside Leon Goretzka.
Fortunately for the Bayern manager, up front is where he’s got plenty of options and shouldn’t feel a great deal of pressure to shuffle things too much beyond any late fitness issues.
As things stand, it’s likely that we’ll see Robert Lewandowski up front with a trio of Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman behind him.
