Jurgen Klopp will officially return to football on 1 January 2025 in a new role with the Red Bull Group.

The German head coach previously managed Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool before confirming his departure from Anfield at the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign.

In a video released by the club, Klopp cited a lack of energy as one of the key reasons for his departure.

It was believed that Klopp would enjoy a lengthy break from football, but he will now take up the role of Global Head of Soccer for the Red Bull Group.

The energy drink brand owns and operates RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga, Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls and Brazilian side Red Bull Bragantino.

"After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this," Klopp said after the announcement.

"The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not."

Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day running of any of the clubs mentioned above, but will instead help to develop and maintain a philosophy both on and off the pitch.

He will provide specific input on coaching, youth development and transfer strategy.

"Jurgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma," Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull's CEO of corporate projects and investments, explained.

"In his role as head of soccer, he will be a game-changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development."

What has Jurgen Klopp won in his career?

Klopp's most successful period came at Liverpool where he won one Champions League, one Premier League, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

At Dortmund, he won two straight Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 and also claimed the DFB-Pokal in 2012 in addition to two German Supercups.
