Jadon Sancho sparkles even as Dortmund lose to Gladbach

England winger Jadon Sancho's return to form continues at pace as he laid on two goals for Erling Haaland as Dortmund went down 3-2.

It continues to be a difficult season for Borussia Dortmund as they lost 3-2 away to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Often, they have had trouble getting the best out of their attacking players, but against Gladbach they could not complain on that front. Erling Haaland scored twice while Sancho excelled.

Nico Elvedi gave Gladbach a strong start by scoring in 11 minutes, yet before half an hour had been played, the excellent Sancho had temporarily turned the course of the game.

A ⏱️ 22’ Sancho gathers the ball in space to the left of the pitch. He turns and penetrates the room in front of him before playing a deft pass through for Haaland, who clips home from a testing angle.

A ⏱️ 28’ Sancho pops up on the right, expertly beats one man before playing a one-two in an impossibly tight space. He shows vision to slip a pass to Haaland, who fires into the corner.

Despite this terrific contribution, Dortmund's defence crumbled and conceded on two further occasions, rendering Sancho's efforts little more than a footnote.

Sancho scored two goals and picked up two assists in his first two matches after Christmas, but on neither occasion did he post a score to match his 9 FC Rating.

Sancho: What Next?

Augsburg are up next for Sancho and Dortmund. He must continue at this level along with Haaland and hope his defensive colleagues can match their standard.

A top-four finish is starting to look like it will be no formality this term - and can BVB keep either of their two stars without Champions League football? Probably not.
