Inter to challenge again but Juventus... just - Serie A 20/21 predictions

For the majority of the 2019/20 season in the Italian top flight it was a closer championship race than usual, with both Inter and Lazio challenging Juventus until the latter rounds.

The Bianconeri emerged victorious for their ninth Scudetto in a row, but their performance in the Champions League led to Maurizio Sarri being sacked, however, with legendary Juve star Andrea Pirlo coming in as his replacement.

Can Juve make it 10, or can Inter or someone else step up?

Here, we lay out some predictions for the new top-flight Italian season.

Inter definitely have the squad and the coach to end Juve’s nine-year winning streak but the chances of an Antonio Conte meltdown are very possible after he nearly quit the club this summer.

Juve have the star power offensively and the experience to make it 10.

This is the hardest Champions League race to call for over a decade in Serie A, with Juventus, Inter, Milan, Roma, Lazio, Napoli and Atalanta all fancying their chances. Juve and Inter should be secure, but a resurrected Napoli and Milan have a good chance of completing the top four.

Much will depend on the last few weeks of the transfer market but, as it stands, I’m going with newly-promoted Crotone and Spezia, who lack the required quality for Serie A. Genoa will struggle again unless they bring in some better players.

The Moroccan was arguably the best midfielder in Serie A last season and joins a very talented Fiorentina side that is crying out for his leadership, control and tactical awareness in the middle of the pitch.

Although he was a free transfer, Pedro showed he was well past his best over the last year or so at Chelsea. And on €3 million a year for three seasons, he’s not the smartest investment at the age of 33.

Cristiano has broken just about every record and won just about every individual award in the game. He is still desperate to win the Capocannoniere title as Serie A top scorer, this year he will be more determined than ever.

Milan are finally building a young team that is worthy of their great name and their biggest star of all is man-mountain goalkeeper Donnarumma. Expect a big season from the Italy No.1.

Put your money on Sassuolo upsetting many a big team this season. Their coach Roberto De Zerbi is Italy’s brightest young manager, they play fantastic football, and possess a host of underrated, gifted players such as Domenico Berardi, Jeremie Boga and Manuel Locatelli.

Enjoyed an outstanding Italy debut against the Netherlands where he suggested he is ready to become just the latest in a golden generation of Italian central midfielders.
