Next season could have as many as SIX Italian teams in the Champions League next season, including Bologna, who have already qualified for the competition for the first time in their history.

Thiago Motta has worked miracles to guide Bologna to a top-four finish, but it seems like the club will struggle to keep hold of their talented coach, who might be away to Juve.

As for Genoa, their position in a bottom-half finish is confirmed.

Bologna current form

Bologna's assault on the top four has been the story of the season in Serie A and they have secured Champions League football thanks to a run of nine games without defeat.

In those nine games, they won four matches against Empoli, Salernitana, Roma and Napoli.

The platform for Bologna's success has arguably been their defence, as they have the second-best defensive record in Serie A in 2023.24.

The only recent injury concern for Genoa surrounds Junior Messias, but he should be able to feature after recovering from a muscle issue.

Lewis Ferguson is a long-term absentee for Bologna due to a knee injury, while Joshua Zirkzee is struggling to appear in the last game of the season.

He might have played his last game for Bologna as he has been strongly linked with a move away from the club due to his stellar performances this summer.
