Wow. It's rare enough that a player scores a hat-trick, but even rarer that a hat-trick of assists is achieved. Well what about both, in the same game?
Werner was in utterly ruthless form as RB Leipzig handed poor Mainz an absolute shellacking on Saturday, recording an 8-0 victory. All of Werner's finishes were from close range, slotting in at the far post to open the scoring, running clear to slot home in the second half before rounding off the win with another tap-in.
But there's more. Not only did his unselfish strike play lay on three goals for team-mates Marcel Sabitzer, Christopher Nkunku and Nordi Mukiele, but he also contributed heavily in the remaining two goals, offering a secondary assist and laying on a pass for Marcel Halstenberg, whose saved shot was converted by Yussuf Poulsen.
His fingerprints were over everything and while Mainz offered minimal resistance, it's extremely rare to witness such an all-round striking display.
