Manchester City began the defence of their Premier League title with a relatively comfortable 2-0 away victory against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola's side opened their account for the new campaign thanks to a predatory finish from Erling Haaland, while Mateo Kovacic made it two within the last 10 minutes.
Player of the Match
Kovacic scored the second goal of the match in the 84th minute when he drifted past the Chelsea midfield to angle a strike into the right corner from the edge of the box.
With the amount of money Chelsea have spent on midfielders recently, you get the feeling that the Croatian would still get in their team despite that huge outlay, as he obviously used to ply his trade at Stamford Bridge.
He contributed both in attack and in defence as he scored the second goal while recording a remarkable 97% pass completion rate. Kovacic also won the majority of his tackles and duels and made six ball recoveries.
Worst Player
Nicolas Jackson is under quite a bit of pressure at Chelsea as the club continue to be linked with a new star centre-forward, namely Victor Osimhen of Napoli.
Unfortunately for Jackson, he didn't put in a display today that would suggest he is up to the task of being the number one centre-forward at the club.
He wasn't necessarily bad, but was just not involved in any capacity. He wasn't involved in a single duel and didn't complete one tackle, cross, or dribble.
Jackson was eventually substituted and Marc Guiu who actually earned a worse FC rating, but he was on the pitch for a lot less time.
