This past weekend was a historic one in the German Bundesliga as Leverkusen won their very first top-flight title.

Under Xabi Alonso, they have got unbeaten so far this season to successfully topple defending champions Bayern Munich.

At the weekend, Leverkusen claimed the title in emphatic fashion, defeating Werder Bremen 5-0.

It's no surprise, then, then a few of their players make our Bundesliga Team of the Weekend for Matchday 29.

Sven Ulreich

Bayern Munich kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Cologne, and Sven Ulreich contributed to that by making five saves between the sticks. His 83% pass completion was admirable considering he attempted five long balls. forward.

Joshua Kimmich

Joshua Kimmich has been one of Bayern's more consistent performers this season, even when forced back into right-back to cover injuries. Against Cologne, he assisted the first goal for Raphael Guerreiro and was typically vigilante in possession, completing 94% of his 93 attempted passes. He sent 36 of those passes in the final third which was more than any other player. Defensively, he won 3/3 tackles and emerged victorious in 7/8 duels.

Nico Schlotterbeck

Nico Schlotterbeck was effective at both sides of the pitch in Dortmund's 2-1 win away at Gladbach. He assisted the opening goal for Marcel Sabitzer and was dominant defensively, winning 2/2 tackles and completing 93% of his passes.

Castello Lukeba

RB Leipzig kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 win at home to Wolfsburg and a major reason for that was the performance of Castelli Lukeba. The towering centre-back completed 93% of his passes, won 100% of his tackles and made more clearances than any other player with 11 as well as eight ball recoveries.

Edmond Tapsoba

The Leverkusen attackers will steal most of the highlights from the 5-0 win but Edmond Tapsoba was assured at the back as the now-champions kept a clean sheet. He completed 92% of his 89 passes, made eight ball recoveries and won 100% of his tackles and aerial duels.

Florian Wirtz

The best player of the weekend, and one of the best players of this entire season, is Florian Wirtz. When Leverkusen needed a win to seal the title, the German took it upon himself to ensure the win by scoring a superb hat-trick.

And...he didn't even start the game!

Dennis Undav

Dennis Undav has enjoyed a marvellous season for Stuttgart, helping them reach the Champions League places. He added to his goal contributions tally with a goal and an assist as Stuttgart beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0.

Marcel Sabitzer

After two straight defeats against Stuttgart and Atletico Madrid, Dortmund got back to winning ways by beating Gladbach 2-1. Marcel Sabitzer scored both goals including one from the penalty spot.

Thomas Muller

Only Kimmich sent more passes in the final third for Bayern than Muller at the weekend, while the World Cup winner scored the second goal of the game in extra time to seal the win for his side.

Jonathan Burkhadt

Mainz beat Hoffenheim 4-1 and Jonathan Burkhadt was the best player on the pitch, scoring one and setting up another.

Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface's season has been interrupted by injuries this season as he has made just 15 Bundesliga starts, but he has been prolific in the time given as he has scored 11 goals in that time, with one coming at the weekend from the penalty spot versus Werder Bremen.
